Work In Progress...

This week, I aim to make at least six mugs in more of a cylinder form than the round shape of the mugs I have previously made. I like the idea of the round mugs, however, I think it would be easier to add the designs to a mug with a flatter surface if that makes sense. Cylinders are not my strong suit, so this is definitely a bit more difficult than I had hoped. I could have hand-built them but I felt like throwing them on the wheel was a good idea.

I mainly struggle with getting the walls of the mug to go straight up and getting the walls thinner. I always tend to let the mug get too wide at the top somehow and then it ends up looking more like a bowl. Hopefully, I will be able to get the walls straight/good thickness once I get the hang of using the wooden rib or ruler when throwing the mug.

As for the designs, I am still debating on whether I want to use slip and have the design raised a bit or if I want to paint them on with underglaze. I like the way the underglaze goes onto the mugs better than the slip does, but we will see how it goes. I am going to focus on getting the mugs made before I stress about what to use for the designs. Hoping that this week goes well and I am productive.
