Plate Time...

This week in class I learned how to throw a plate. I think they turned out halfway decent, and I was slightly surprised how they survived. I used equal parts porcelain because I LOVE how it feels, so hopefully they will turn out okay. Trimming the plates sounds very difficult, especially trimming the foot. When I first started trimming, I would trim right through the bottom of whatever I was trimming. I feel like this will be my biggest struggle when trimming the plate. I seem to have a hard time knowing when to stop and it always ends up falling in a bit. I am excited to trim them but also quite anxious.
So far I only made two plates because I have been throwing the rest of my mugs. I am honestly super behind on every project which is very stressful. If I am being honest, I am just behind in every class. Learning how to balance full-time college with full-time work has not been easy at all. I used to be able to come to the studio every day and I was working constantly, but now it is very hard to find time to come in. I need to just look at my calendar and force myself to go in on certain days. I think it makes it harder with my job being unpredictable. I never know if it is going to be an easy day or a hard day with my students. Some days I will have a plan to come in after work and I am so physically exhausted that I just end up putting it off for another day. Considering my students have been off for an entire week, I know this week is going to be very rough. Change is very hard for individuals diagnosed with autism, so fingers crossed they will have an easier transition than expected.
I am looking forward to finishing up some of my mugs and firing them. Handles have not been very easy for me lately. I am able to make them, however, attaching them is difficult because I can never get them smooth enough. Hopefully, this time around I can figure something out. Here are some pictures from this week to show what I have been working on.
