This weekend was a hot messssss! I was not able to come into the studio at all because I was sick and stayed in bed the entire time, so I am a bit behind on my work. Everything is bisque, so now all I have to do is glaze which sounds simple but it is not. For my first project, I made a set of mugs that have neurons on them. The problem is, I need white underglaze and we do not have any. The plan was to go to Kentucky Mudworks and buy some, but then I got sick and could not go and the store closes at four which is when my classes get out. I could technically go sometime on Thursday or preferably Saturday BUT everything is due on Wednesday, so I have no idea what to do.
In all honesty, I am not sure what color to put on my mugs. And I just realized that all of my mugs will be fired in cone six which means I won't be able to drink out of them because I used underglaze, so that is thrilling. Today is going really well if you can't tell!
Anyways, today in class I put glaze on my spikes that are going in the raku firing and I am very much looking forward to that! I helped do a raku last semester but I did not have anything in it, so I am excited to see how they turn out. I really like the texture I put on my blobs so hopefully they do not explode. I think Raku is one of the most interesting fires that I have seen and I like how a trash can is used. Hopefully, I will be able to figure out what to do about the underglaze on my mugs and then I will be less stressed. Wish me luck!
