Chillin' On The Studio Floor...

This week has been crazy to say the least. I've spent the majority of my evenings at the studio and I am usually here until early in the morning. It is nice to be able to get out of the house and have a place to relax, while also working on ceramics of course. This week I have been working on the blobs I discussed in my last blog. When I made the stress ball last semester, I rolled each tiny spike myself which took forever. Luckily, the stress ball was quite small. However, for this project, I had three different size blobs and instead of rolling each tiny spike, I used slip. For the small blob, I used the Xiem Precision Applicator to form the spikes. For the medium and big blobs, I used the ketchup bottle on the shelf in the studio. This worked very well and the slip came out very smooth.

Today I focused on putting underglaze on one of my mugs and making sure all of my work was finished drying and ready to be bisqued. Hopefully, all of the bowls were fully dry and won't crack. Unfortunately, the big blob I made had a few cracks in it when I put it on the shelf, so kind of nervous about that but we shall see. I plan on putting them in the raku fire, because I want them to look very funky. I am definitely looking forward to that!
